Coach: Travis Brackett (10th season)
Returning starters: four offense, four defense
Last year: After starting last season with two losses, Novato rattled off 11 wins in a row on the way to a berth in the North
Coast Section championship game. A 35-28 loss to Encinal ended the Hornets' season with a 11-3 record. Over their
11-game win streak, the Hornets outscored their opponents by an average of 38.5 points. The run included a 7-0 record
in the MCAL. For their efforts, the Hornets placed seven players on the all-MCAL first team. All seniors: Jeff Stephens,
Kyle Campas, Jake Davis, Aaron McDonald, Diego Velasquez, Josh Greenwell and Carlos Navarrette.
Keys to success: Quite simple, build on last year's success, but with new pieces. They'll have to replace the seven
all-MCAL seniors, but the Hornets tout three sophomores that are ready for varsity action. And those sophomores aren't
all green. J.T. Peleki (DE) saw varsity action as a freshman. As far as the new players mixing in with the upperclassman,
coach Brackett isn't worried. "It's already happening," Brackett said. "We've been together now since the middle of May.
We've gone to full-contact camps. We're ready to roll."
Last word: "We've got to stay injury free," Brackett said. "That's always something that can hurt (your season), no matter
who you are."
